The TQC Sheen portable and precise gloss meters, ideal for production and laboratories inspecting paint, coatings, plastics and automotive parts.

Description

Brought to you by TQC Sheen, our specialist paint testing brand the glossmeter was developed to accurately measure the gloss levels of flat surfaces to international standards.

The perception of a surface’s appearance is significantly shaped by the amount of light reflecting specularly from it. This aspect is just as crucial for inspection as color. Gloss itself is based on the interaction and reflection of light and the physical characteristics of a surface.

In an economy where production efficiency is key, quality remains all-important and there’s no room for error. However, to reduce costs, production is moving all over the planet. If you need to safeguard quality, then high-end inspection instruments are crucial to maintain consumer confidence.

This is where our industry-leading glossmeters come in! They’re ideal for gloss testing any level flat surface – from paper to paint, plastic or wood.

Glossmeter testing options

There are two models of industry-leading glossmeters in our portfolio – the SoloGloss® and the PolyGloss®. Both of our precision gloss testing devices offer you fast and accurate gloss level readings.

The SoloGloss® is our single-angle gloss tester. It’s suitable for most applications and is preferred for measurements in the semi-gloss range. The light source and the detector are positioned under an angle of 60° of the surface to be measured. (This item is also included in the Qualicoat kit.)

The PolyGloss® is our most advanced gloss tester. It’s a triple angle measurement device that inspects across the entire gloss spectrum from angles of 20°, 60° and 85°. For the most reliable gloss measurements on high gloss surfaces the 20° angle is ideal. When inspecting low gloss levels with high diffuse reflection, or matt surfaces, the 85° angle suits best.

Multi-angles for different applications

It is common practice to use a 60° angle glossmeter for almost every application. However, ISO 2813 advises to use the following geometries to obtain improved differentiation on high-gloss or low-gloss surfaces:
• 20° measuring angle for high-gloss surfaces where a 60° glossmeter typically indicates values higher than 70 GU.
• 85° measuring angle for low-gloss surfaces where a 60° glossmeter typically indicates values lower than 10 GU.
• The reported gloss value should always mention the measurement angle used.

Simple glossmeter testing

No special training or skills are required. Just position the gloss testing gauge in place, press the scan button and read the values.

Precision-engineered glossmeter

For sturdy, reliable stability our glossmeters feature a unique double hybrid frame system, engineered with the highest precision.

Sophisticated gloss testing analysis

We include our TQC Sheen Ideal Finish Analysis Software with both glossmeters. So, you’ll analyze your gloss measurement results with ease and get all of the information you need. This includes trends, Gaussian and many other statistical evaluations.

High quality gloss test guarantee

To assess the quality of our glossmeters we took thousands of readings on certified substrates to test stability, reliability and durability.

Bright advice from our gloss testing team!

We’ve been designing and building glossmeters and gloss testing devices for many years. We like to share the knowledge we’ve amassed with you. For example, you can look at this blog which explains how to interpret a glossmeter reading.
